Bryce Canyon Half Marathon MVP

We went to Tropic so Katie could run in the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon.  We also met up with Gwen who had been staying with Cori and Matt in Las Vegas.  Katie finished the race in under 1:50.  I was awarded the race MVP for passing out so many waters to runners.  I'm sure there was a picture in the Garfield newspaper.  I'm almost inspired to run the race next year, especially considering Matt and Landon were able to finish it.  It's so beautiful down there and we had a lot of fun with Katie's family.  We were also able to see Grandma Thelma.

Kob Kun Krab

My parents came to visit us this weekend.  It was a nice stay.  Our house has been feeling a little empty and lonely with Gwen out of town.

Saturday they said they'd take us, along with Kristin and Eric, out to dinner.  I chose Thai and was a little nervous if they would like it.  There is a great Thai Restaurant by Sneider's called Thai Orchid that katie and I love, mostly because it's the most authentic Thai food we've found in Salt Lake.  Tha't good for people that enjoy Thai food, but may be a little overwhelming for people that aren't accustomed to it.

The food was excellent and after ordering 7 dishes to share, I looked around and noticed that even the suace had been sopped out of every bowl.  It was a hit.  My mom must have said 10 times how much she enjoyed dinner.  My dad thought the papaya salad was a bit too spicy, but it was one of my favorites.

My parents left early Sunday morning.  It will probably be several months before we see them again.  I was a little saddened watching the strain my dad has to go through to get in and out of our car.  He's now 72 years old.  He was still talking about several things he'd like to do, a Caribbean cruise, visit Sweden and even Australia.  What's sad is that in his current condition, I don't think he could really do any of them, perhaps the cruise.  It was a good lesson to me to enjoy life along the way.  Time goes by quickly and before you know it, your body doesn't allow you to do the things you'd like to do.  It's tough seeing him get older.  My biggest fear is that my mom gets some disease and goes quickly and then my dad is left to care for himself.  I don't think he could do, and each year he's only getting older.  Life sure is difficult as we age.
